Showerthought: Chasing a ground fault in a 1970s house took me 5 hours

I had a job out in Beaverton last month where a breaker kept tripping for no obvious reason. Figured it would be a quick fix, maybe a loose wire in a junction box or something simple. Ended up spending most of the afternoon tracing through knob and tube that had been spliced into modern Romex all over the place. Finally found the issue behind a wall where a nail had nicked the hot wire. Has anyone else wasted a whole day on a single outlet that should have been a 20 minute fix?

Shocked they even nailed into knob and tube wiring in the first place. That stuff is ancient enough to deserve a retirement party. 5 hours sounds like a nightmare honestly.

That "5 hours sounds like a nightmare" part is the truth, man.
