Unpopular opinion: my worst week as a contractor taught me more than any good one

I had a week last June in Austin where everything went wrong. I bid a kitchen remodel at $8,500 and the client kept changing their mind about cabinet placement after I already framed the walls. Then my table saw broke mid-cut on a Friday afternoon. I had to rent a replacement from Home Depot for $75 and lost half a day driving back and forth. The client was unhappy, I was stressed, and I barely made any profit on that job. But looking back, that week forced me to start writing change orders before doing any extra work. Now I always get signed approval before moving forward with client requests. Anyone else have a disaster week that actually made you a better contractor in the long run?

Idk man, change orders work but you gotta make sure theyre specific or clients will still argue about labor vs materials.

Man, had a guy argue that demo labor counted as materials once.
