Serious question, I think charging extra for thick hair is wrong and my coworker at the salon in Tempe blew up at me over it
Last Tuesday a client sat in my chair with hair down to her waist and my coworker leaned over and told me to add $30 to the ticket because of how thick it was, and I said no in front of everyone. She pulled me into the break room after and said I was undercutting her prices since we rent chairs in the same room on Mill Ave, but I still think charging by hair type is a scam that punishes people for genetics. Do you all charge more for thick or long hair, or am I the only one who thinks the price should just be the price?
I used to be right there with you, thinking it was unfair to charge more for something people are born with. Then I watched a stylist friend spend an extra 45 minutes on one head of thick hair, and it clicked that she was basically making half her normal rate on that client. The work is real even if the hair is not their fault, so now I get why the price goes up.
