That older stylist who taught me about patience

I had this one client back in 2019, a woman in her 70s who came in every 6 weeks for a perm. She told me her last stylist rushed through the wrapping and she ended up with weird kinks. So I took my time, spent almost an hour just on the perm rods. She said 'that's the first time in years someone didn't treat my hair like a chore.' I still think about that sometimes. Anybody else have a client who changed how you work?

Ugh YES this. I had this older lady who came in for cuts and she always wanted her hair dried with just a comb and a diffuser no brush. Every other stylist would try to blow it out smooth and she'd leave unhappy. So I finally just did what she asked and she was like finally someone who listens. She brought me cookies the next time. It sounds so small but it taught me to actually hear what people want instead of assuming I know better. That one thing stuck with me.

Man, I used to think I knew better than clients too but this totally changed how I see it.
