Showerthought: I thought the 'write what you know' advice was just a cliche until I tried a prompt about my hometown diner.

I mean, I was super skeptical because my town is pretty boring, but that prompt about describing the smell of burnt coffee and the cracked vinyl booths in the old Main Street diner unlocked a whole story about my dad I'd never thought to tell, idk, has anyone else had a simple prompt surprise them like that?
