A guy at a wedding in Seoul told me my hanbok was for a funeral, not a party
I wore a light green hanbok to a friend's wedding in Seoul last spring and an older guest pulled me aside and said the color and style were what people wear to funerals, not celebrations. I had no clue that in Korea white and certain pale shades are tied to mourning, while bright colors are for happy events. Some people say you should just wear what you want as a guest and not worry about old rules, but others say ignoring those colors is actually rude. Where do you draw the line between respecting a culture's taboos and just doing your own thing?
