Funeral selfies were normal in my hometown, now they're a scandal
Grew up in New Orleans where taking pics with the deceased at wakes was just what families did to remember them. Last summer I posted one from my cousin's funeral in Baton Rouge and got slammed by out-of-state relatives calling it disrespectful. The shift happened fast, maybe over the last 10 years as more national funeral norms crept in through social media. I'm curious, does anyone else come from a region where death rituals are way more casual than the mainstream expects?
Waited ten years for this to become a scandal? That blows my mind. We did the same thing in my family and nobody blinked. Guess the internet just decided when it's okay to grieve out loud.
