Hot take: why is talking about death with kids so taboo in the US?
I grew up in Mexico where my grandma's funeral had all the kids there playing in the yard while adults talked. Here in the States my neighbor told me I was "messed up" for taking my 7 year old to a wake last year. When did we decide shielding kids from mortality was normal? Anyone else deal with this cross cultural stuff?

The US treats death like this weird secret nobody's supposed to talk about. Kids end up more scared because they get no real way to understand it.

Watched a kid at my niece's birthday party ask where their goldfish went and the mom just said "he's sleeping" for three years, @angelac63.
