I finally chose silence over a family wedding in India, tricky but worth it
My cousin's wedding in Punjab was planned for 3 days of nonstop noise, dancing, and 500 relatives. I had to pick between going and keeping my mouth shut about how I feel about arranged marriages, or skipping it entirely and dealing with the fallout. I chose to skip it, sent a gift and a video message instead. The aunties were mad for about a week, but honestly, my mental health won. Has anyone else skipped a big family event because of a cultural practice you just can't support? How did you handle the guilt trips?

Did a friend of mine just pull the same move for her cousin's shaadi in Gujarat? She sent a nice gift, made up some work excuse, and turned her phone off for the whole weekend. Her mom gave her the cold shoulder for a month but she says it was the best sleep she's gotten in years.
