Builder in Asheville told me to pick my windows before my floor plan, and it's messing with my head
We were standing in his model home last Friday and I mentioned how I'd already sketched out the whole first floor, and he just laughed and said "son, the windows write the plan, not the other way around." He explained that picking the 6 foot sliders and the tall kitchen windows first forced him to rethink where the back hallway went, and honestly the layout he showed me was better than my sketch. Has anyone else built their plan around the glass instead of the other way around, or is this guy just old school?
Six foot sliders are a real number to start from, so that part clicks. What did he say about the wall between the kitchen and the back hallway once those tall windows were locked in? And here is the question I would push on: did he run the numbers on how much floor space those bigger windows actually cost you, or was it all about sight lines? Because the layout can look better on paper while the usable square footage shrinks, and that trade off is the whole ballgame. How did he handle that part.
