I finally spoke up about recycled glass countertops in my latest project.
They look great but chip way too easily for a family kitchen.

Wait, you can actually roll dough right on them? I always assumed they were way too fragile for that kind of thing... I've been using a giant board for everything, even just making sandwiches. Hearing that a good resin mix makes them tough enough for a cast iron drop is a total game changer for me. Maybe my friend's bad experience was just a cheap install job.

When I redid my kitchen five years back, I chose recycled glass counters. They've handled daily use from my two kids without major problems. We cut vegetables and roll dough right on the surface, and only one small chip happened from a dropped cast iron pan. I always use cutting boards for very hard items, which helps a lot. The installer used a strong resin mix, so that might be why mine are holding up. From my experience, they can be quite tough for a busy family.

Totally agree with @emery_morgan8, our recycled glass counters have held up great too. Ours have a few tiny marks but nothing major after three years of chaos. Sounds like a good installer with the right mix makes all the difference.
