I wasted $800 on smart home features I never use before building my custom house

We broke ground on our place outside Austin last spring. I spent weeks planning all these smart home systems. Automated blinds, fancy thermostats, voice controlled everything. First week living there I realized I just walk over and flip the switch or open the curtains myself. The builder even warned me that most people ditch the automation after a month. Should have put that money into better windows or thicker insulation. Anybody else regret their smart home splurges?

Thermostat and some lights are all you really need.

@jesse_cooper I get your point, but I'd add a door lock to that list. The August lock cost me $150 and saved me from getting locked out twice last winter. Thermostat and lights are nice for comfort but a lock is actual security. I had a connected smoke detector too that alerted me when the battery was dying at 2am, which was oddly useful.
