My son's countertop pick brought us all together
After months of debate, my wife and I finally agreed on the kitchen layout with our builder. Our teenage son even helped pick out the countertop material, which felt like a big win. Now everyone is excited to see it come together.

Oh man, this is so true! We let our daughter pick her bedroom light fixture (it's this wild star shaped thing) and she's way more careful about turning it off when she leaves now. I love what @tessagibson said about the dishes, it's exactly that kind of shift. Getting them involved just makes the whole house feel more like a team project, you know? It sounds like your kitchen is going to be awesome with everyone's input.

My ten-year-old daughter picked our kitchen backsplash tile last year. She got so into it that she started putting her dishes in the new dishwasher without being asked, which felt like a miracle. Getting kids invested in the house really does change how they see the space. Just wait until you're all staring at that empty room full of boxes, you'll be glad everyone had a say.

Totally! I read an article about how letting kids make real choices for the house makes them feel actual ownership. It said even small stuff, like picking a paint color or a lamp, boosts how much they care for the space. Your story about the dishwasher is the perfect example of that.
