Rant: I didn't get a detailed spec sheet signed off before they started framing, and it cost me an extra $8k in change orders for things I thought were included.

Has anyone else had a builder assume standard details that weren't actually standard for your vision, like window trim or under-cabinet lighting?

Yeah, that's brutal. What were the main things they considered "standard" that you had to fight for? I'm guessing stuff like basic outlet placement or maybe door hardware, but eight grand is a huge gap. Did they at least give you a list of their so-called standard finishes before you signed anything?

My buddy had a similar issue with his builder... they called basic light fixtures "standard" but only offered one ugly option. The list they gave him was super vague, just said "builder grade" without any real details. It's crazy how much gets hidden in those loose terms.

My builder did the exact same thing with "standard" plumbing fixtures...
