Serious question, how do you pick a builder when you're not from the area?
We just moved to Flagstaff and want to build. Back in Phoenix, I knew my old builder from three family projects, so it was easy. Here, I'm starting from zero and all the online reviews feel fake. I called one guy who sounded great, but his quote was 30% higher than the others for the same plan. Has anyone else had to find a good builder in a new town without any local contacts?

Drive around and look for active sites" is solid advice, but I'd skip the part about knocking on doors. Following @bell.lily's plan sounds like a good way to meet your new neighbors while also getting a restraining order. Maybe just check the county permit site instead.

Drive around the neighborhoods you like and look for active construction sites. A clean job site with organized materials often means a careful crew. Knock on the door of the house next door and ask the owners what they've seen, good or bad. People are usually pretty honest when they've been living next to the noise and mess for months.
