Why nobody talks about putting AC vents in the floor plans
Had my custom builder install floor vents instead of ceiling ones in my new house in Phoenix, and my cooling bill dropped $75 a month for 5 months straight. Anyone else try this layout or am I just getting lucky with my slab foundation?

Honestly I gotta push back on this a little. Floor vents make sense for heating because heat rises, but you're in Phoenix where cooling is the main thing. Cold air sinks, so putting vents in the floor means you're fighting against physics a bit. Your slab foundation might be saving you money because the ground stays cooler underground, not because of the vent location itself. Also floor vents can be a real pain to keep clean with dust and dog hair settling into them. Have you compared your house's insulation and window sealing to your old place? That could explain more of the savings than the vent placement.

Figured I'd just stick a few fans in the floor to help the cold air fight its way up, really lean into the physics battle. My dog already treats the vents like treat disposal units so cleaning is a lost cause anyway. Insulation and window sealing are probably doing the heavy lifting but that's less fun to brag about than my rebellious floor vents. Honestly at this point I'm just happy my AC bill is lower and the vents double as crumb catchers.
