Got phished at a coffee shop in Portland last week

I was logging into my bank on their free wifi and clicked a fake login popup without thinking. Lost $200 before I caught it and froze my card. Any tips for spotting fake login screens on public networks?

I lost $150 to a fake Starbucks login page in 2019, so I know the feeling. The big giveaway for me now is if the page loads instantly with no lag. Real bank logins almost always take a second or two. I also always look at the address bar before typing anything. If there is no padlock icon or the URL looks wrong, I back out right away. Another thing is to use your bank's app instead of the website when you are on public wifi. Apps are usually safer because they don't rely on browser redirects.

Just use your bank's app instead of the website.
