Took me 4 hours to change a toilet flapper last Saturday

I always thought plumbing was simple. YouTube videos make it look like a 10 minute job. But the old nut on the fill valve was corroded solid. I snapped two cheap wrenches before driving to Lowe's for a proper set. Finally got it off at hour 3, then realized the new flapper was the wrong size. Had to go back out and swap it. By the time water was running clean, four hours had passed and I was covered in rust. Has anyone else had a "quick fix" turn into an all day project?

Three different friends have told me similar stories about changing their own oil and ending up at the shop the next day because something went wrong. Idk, YouTube really makes everything look faster than it is in a real garage with rusty bolts and old parts. Four hours is rough but honestly it sounds like you learned a lot for next time.

Respectfully, 4 hours on a flapper sounds like poor planning, not bad luck.

My buddy Mike tried to do a "simple" garbage disposal swap last spring. Said it would take maybe an hour after watching three videos. Well, the old disposal was rust-welded to the sink flange. He fought it for two hours, banging and prying, before the whole thing finally came loose and dropped on his foot. Then he found out the new one didn't line up with his drain pipes, so he had to cut and refit everything. He started at 10am and didn't have a working sink until almost dinner time. He texted me a photo of himself covered in black gunk and said he'd rather pay a plumber next time. So yeah, I feel your pain.
