Appreciation post: hit 200 cars through my Detroit mobile detailing setup
I started washing cars out of a beat up van two years ago near Eastern Market and just did my 200th job last Saturday. What got me was the repeat rate, 63 people came back a second time, and a guy named Dwayne on the west side has booked me 11 times now. I always assumed most customers would be one and done. Any other mobile service folks in the city seeing that kind of loyalty, or is it just because I show up when I say I will?
That 63 percent repeat rate sounds great but let's be real, there's a flip side nobody wants to talk about. When someone books you 11 times like Dwayne, they start to feel like they own you, and every time you raise your prices or can't fit them in same day they take it personal. Relying on the same handful of loyal folks is risky too, because if a few of them move away or get a new car they baby themselves, your whole schedule thins out fast. I'd argue the one and done crowd is actually healthier in some ways, less headache, less texting at 9pm about a spot they swear is still there. Showing up on time is the easy part, the hard part is not letting the regulars run your whole business.
