Had to pick between a big ad spend or hiring a local student for social media

I was stuck between dropping $2,000 on a Facebook ad campaign or paying a Wayne State marketing student $15 an hour to run our Instagram for a month. Went with the student, and our follower count went up by 300 in just two weeks. Has anyone else tried working with local colleges for help?

But like, 300 followers in two weeks? That's barely anything for a real business.

But 300 followers who actually care about your brand beats 2,000 random ad clicks any day. The student probably gets the local scene way better than some generic ad. @leo_kelly, are you just looking at the raw number? Because real engagement from a small, tight knit group can be way more valuable for sales than a big, quiet list.
