Rant: My POS system crashed and wiped a whole day of sales data
Last Tuesday my credit card machine froze up right in the middle of a busy lunch rush at my diner. I got about 30 orders in and then the whole system went black. Turns out the cloud backup wasn't running like I thought, so I lost every single transaction from that morning. Had to call customers back and ask them what they ordered and if they remembered what they paid. Took me three hours on hold with the tech support line just to get a basic reset done. Now I'm looking at getting a different system that stores everything locally too. Anyone else had a POS failure mess up their records like this?

Oh man, that's brutal... I had a similar thing happen with my POS a couple years back and it was a nightmare. What finally worked for me was switching to a system that does local backups every hour on top of the cloud one. Haven't had a problem since, knock on wood.

My Square POS ate three days of transactions back in 2018 and I still get a little twitchy thinking about it. I ended up writing down every single sale on paper for about a month after that because I just didn't trust anything. Lesson learned though, I do hourly local backups now on a cheap flash drive and it's saved me twice already.
