TIL a guy running a party store on Woodward almost lost his place over a $300 sign fee
Talked to Marcus, who owns a shop near Woodward and 7 Mile, at a supplier meetup last week. He said a $300 city sign permit fee he didn't know about turned into a fine, then a court date, and he almost lost his lease over it. I always assumed the big stuff kills small shops, rent and taxes. Now I'm wondering how many Detroit owners are getting tripped up by small fees nobody told them about, what dumb tiny fee almost got you?
