Flex plate cracked on a 6.7 and I found it by pure dumb luck
Had a customer's Ram 2500 come in two weeks ago with a no crank and I chased the starter and batteries for a full day before anything made sense. I was under the truck with a flashlight checking grounds when I noticed a hairline crack running out from one of the flex plate bolts. Pulled the inspection cover and sure enough the plate was cracked almost all the way around, so the starter was spinning but the crank wasn't catching right. $340 part plus a weekend of my life, and the guy still swears he never towed anything heavy. Any of you seen these crack this early, or did this truck just live a harder life than the owner admits?
Did you ever read about the TSB on those flex plates? I heard the earlier 6.7s had a run of them that would crack around the bolt circle even on trucks that never pulled a trailer. Might be worth checking if his VIN falls in that range before you write it off as abuse.
