Old timer told me to stop using vice grips on hydraulic fittings

Guy I work with saw me clamping a line with vice grips. He said I was gonna oval the fitting and cause a leak later. Switched to proper line wrenches and padded clamps. Been 6 months now and no more weeping connections on my repairs. Anybody else fight the urge to grab vice grips first?

You ever actually had an old timer save your butt on something? I swear, every time I thought I knew better, I ended up eating my words. They've seen enough cycles of stupid mistakes to spot them from a mile away. Now I just nod and take notes, even if it sounds outdated. It's weird how often their "that'll never work" turns out to be exactly right.
