Shoutout to the old timer at the truck stop in Amarillo who caught my fuel leak
Stopped for coffee at a Pilot off I-40 in Amarillo during a run and this gray haired guy in a CAT cap walked over and pointed at a drip under my tank. I had been smelling diesel for 200 miles and figured it was just spillage from the last fill up. He got down on the gravel with a flashlight and showed me a hairline crack in the return line right at the fitting, said he sees it all the time on rigs past 400k miles. Took me 20 minutes and an $18 piece of hose to fix in their parking lot instead of blowing a line out in the middle of Kansas. How often do you guys crawl under and actually look at your return lines, or do you wait for the smell like I did?
A crack at the fitting on a 400k rig is about the most common thing I see. I check my return lines every oil change now, since a $3 flashlight beats a $900 tow. Five minutes on your back saves a whole lot of sitting on the shoulder.
