A comment about my color palette changed my whole approach

Someone on this forum said my fantasy landscapes looked 'too safe' because I always used the same muted blues and greens. I started using a color wheel to pick one bold, contrasting shade for each piece, like a bright coral sky. Has anyone else gotten a piece of advice that pushed them out of a creative comfort zone?

Wait, you were using the same blues and greens for everything? That's wild to me, I can't even stick to one style for a week. A coral sky sounds insane in a good way though. My wake-up call was someone telling me all my character faces looked the same, like copy-pasted. Forced me to learn different nose shapes and it was a game changer.

Omg the copy-pasted faces thing is so real. I got roasted for drawing the same side profile on every single person, like a lineup of clones. @annaf85, for me the hardest new color was this weird mustard yellow, felt wrong for months but now I put it everywhere. Breaking out of your own habits is brutal but so worth it.

What was the hardest new color to get used to?
