A guy on my Discord called my flat colors lazy, so I spent 3 weeks learning to paint light and now my whole gallery looks different
He didn't say it mean, just said my shading looked like "someone filled a coloring book with the bucket tool" and honestly he was dead on. So I picked one old piece from last March, a little robot in a coffee shop, and redid just the lighting, 6 hours on the window glow and cup shadows alone. Then I did 4 more old pieces the same way, and the difference is wild, the flat ones now look like stickers next to the new versions. I still post both in my showcase folder side by side, mostly because it keeps me from going back to the easy way. Does anyone here keep their old versions up, or do you swap the files so nobody sees the before?
Keeping the old ones up is just giving people a reason to scroll past your new stuff, the glow up hits harder if the before pics disappear. Swapping the files means you actually moved on instead of parking your worst work right next to your best.
