Found out I was reporting posts wrong on Twitter for months
I kept hitting the report button for spam on obvious hate speech because I thought that was the closest category. Then a mod from another platform explained that Twitter actually tracks hate speech reports separately and I had been messing up their data the whole time. How do you guys figure out the right reporting categories on different sites?

Wait, Twitter actually separates out hate speech reports from spam? That's wild, I had no idea. Honestly though, you're not alone in this - I spent like six months reporting obvious bot accounts for harassment instead of spam because I figured that was the most serious option. Best way I've found to figure it out is to just pause and read every single category option slowly, then picture which one the site itself would want to track most. Also, if you're on desktop, sometimes hovering over the little info icons next to each option actually explains what they mean in plain English.

Isnt that how most things work these days? We all just pick the loudest or most serious sounding option without realizing theres a whole system designed around specific categories. Its like when you call customer service and mash 0 three times instead of listening to the actual menu.
