Unpopular opinion: Text updates beat real-time meetings for remote teams
I shifted to written check-ins with my team a few weeks back. This change has cut my stress levels while moving between cities. I no longer hunt for quiet corners to join video chats. My reply times fit around exploring new places. What's your go-to method for staying in sync with coworkers?

Honestly, written updates crush meetings for one huge reason: timezone math disappears. My team's spread across 5 zones, and a single doc we can all edit means we figure out a problem in hours, not days. It also leaves a perfect paper trail so nobody forgets what we decided.

Oh man, that reminds me of my friend's team. They had a huge launch delay because they kept trying to sync up a 4am call for someone. They finally switched to a shared work doc, and the whole mess got sorted in one afternoon. Everyone just added their notes as they woke up.

Last year, my team had people in 3 timezones. I used to insist on live meetings for every decision. Your example with 5 zones made me see how wasteful that was. We started using a shared doc for our last launch, and issues got solved without waiting for a call. The paper trail meant no more arguing about who said what. I'm fully on board with written updates now.
