Bought a $220 used drum machine off a guy in San Salvador and it saved my whole D11-04 workflow
I picked up a used Elektron Model:Cycles from a dude in San Salvador for $220 because my laptop kept crashing mid set and I needed something that just worked. Ended up building half the drum patterns on D11-04 on that thing during a power outage, no DAW, no problem. Anyone else leaning on cheap hardware over plugins lately?
That "power outage, no DAW, no problem" line is the whole reason I keep a cheap box around. First thing I'd say is check the power brick situation, because those Model:Cycles units run fine off a USB battery pack and that alone saves you when the wall dies. Second, save your patterns to the unit itself and not just your laptop, because I learned that one the hard way when a crash ate two hours of work. The $220 price is about right for used too, so you didn't get burned, and honestly the limits on that thing push you to write faster than a screen full of plugins ever will. Cheap gear that turns on every time beats fancy gear that doesn't.
