Overheard a sound engineer at a San Salvador bar say most local DJs mix by just matching BPM
I was packing up after a small set in Santa Tecla when this guy started talking about how he sees too many DJs just slap tracks together because the numbers line up. He said he watched a headliner ignore key clash and it ruined the whole vibe for 200 people. Made me double check my own sets for proper harmonic mixing.

Wait, is that really what he said though? BPM matching is the bare minimum, not the whole problem... I've seen plenty of DJs who nail the tempo but still clear a floor because they drop a C minor track right into an F sharp major tune. That's the kind of key clash that makes people wince and start checking their phones. Harmonic mixing is just as important as beatmatching if you want the set to flow smooth. It's not rocket science to learn the Camelot wheel, but a lot of guys skip it and it shows.
