Didnt realize how much drywall dust I was making until I weighed it
I was cleaning up after mudding a bedroom in my house in Toledo and decided to weigh the dust pile out of curiosity. It was over 12 pounds from just one small room, which shocked me since I always thought it wasnt that much. Has anyone else measured what their projects actually leave behind?

Wait, did you weigh it before or after it dried completely? Because wet mud is mostly water, so that 12 pounds probably included a bunch of moisture that's gonna evaporate as it cures. I made the same mistake once weighing a bucket of leftover joint compound, freaked out thinking I'd have to haul 40 pounds of trash, then realized it was gonna shrink down to like half that. Plus, a lot of the dust that gets in the air doesn't even make it to the pile, especially if you're sanding by hand or using a pole sander without a vacuum attachment. My guess is the actual dry dust from that room was probably more like 3 or 4 pounds once you account for the water weight.

Nah, 3-4 pounds sounds way more realistic lol. That initial weight was def mostly water.
