Finally figured out why my closet shelving kept sagging after 3 tries

Turns out I was using regular particle board instead of plywood with a 3/4 inch thickness, and now the new shelves have held up 40 pounds of blankets for 6 months without bowing at all has anyone else made this mistake with shelving materials?

Jump right into using plywood with a 3/4 inch thickness and you'll never look back. I did the same thing with particle board in my garage and it sagged under a few shoeboxes, so you're not alone there. The key is to make sure you get AC plywood with a good finish on one side and it'll handle way more weight than you expect.
