Found a simple fix for squeaky subfloors that actually worked

My house was built in 1987 and those squeaks in the hallway were driving me crazy. I tried screwing the existing boards back down, but nothing held. What finally worked was using 2 inch construction screws with a special collar that stops the screw head from snapping off, about 30 screws total on a 12 foot run. Has anyone else had luck with a different method for older subfloors?

omg those screw heads snapping off is the WORST 😩 i had the same problem with my 90s house, ended up using #8 x 2" deck screws with a torx head instead of phillips and they went in way smoother without stripping or snapping. no predrilling either, just sent em straight through the old carpet.

That collar on the screw head - is it a specific brand like the Squeak-Relief ones or something from the hardware store? I've got a 1989 house and I'm wondering if those would work better than the regular deck screws I've been using. The hallway in my place has this one spot right near the door that's been driving me nuts, and I've already snapped off like 4 screw heads trying to fix it. Did you predrill at all or just send those screws straight through the carpet?
