I finally skipped the leveling compound and my floor came out flatter

After 3 failed self-leveling pours in my Milwaukee basement that each ended up worse than the last, I used shims and osb panels on the joists instead and my finished floor sits dead level, so has anyone else ditched the compound route for the shim method?
