Just realized my garden hose split mid project because I left it under pressure for 2 weeks
I was out back in my yard last Saturday hooking up the pressure washer to strip my deck, and when I turned the spigot on, the hose split right at the crimp and sprayed water all over my jeans. The whole hose had been sitting under full pressure since the middle of June because I never shut the spigot off after washing my truck. I ran to the hardware store, grabbed a $12 replacement hose, and this time I put a quick shutoff valve at the end so I can release the pressure without dragging the whole thing around. Also started draining the line after every use, which took me way too long to figure out. Anyone else fry their hose this way, or do you all have a smarter setup at the spigot?
My dad did the same thing back in 2019 with a hose he left hooked to the spigot for a month straight, and it blew out right where the metal crimp meets the rubber. That spot takes all the stress when the water just sits there pushing out, so it's the first place to go. You already nailed the fix with the shutoff valve, but one more thing that helped me is a cheap brass Y splitter at the spigot so each line has its own valve. Now I can kill the pressure on just the hose I'm using and leave the other one alone. I also coil mine up and hang it on a wall mount so no water sits in the low spots all winter. Twelve bucks stings when it happens but at least you caught it before the deck got soaked too.
