Warning: I was sure peel-and-stick tile in my Denver basement was a scam
Six months ago I laid 24 sq ft of it over old concrete and it has held up through two floods, no lifting at all. But my neighbor swears grout and real tile is the only way, so who's right here?
Man, I had almost the same thing happen in my old place. Put down peel and stick over a rough concrete floor in the laundry room and figured it would pop up within a month. Two years later and it never moved once, even after the water heater leaked and soaked the whole corner. Your neighbor probably just had a bad go with it one time and now he's sworn off forever. Prep is everything with that stuff, if the floor is clean and dry it hangs on like glue. Real tile looks nicer, sure, but for a basement that might get wet? Peel and stick is honestly the smarter call.
