That 'quick' caulk job that took me 3 whole afternoons

I tried to redo the bathroom baseboards with a new caulk gun and thought it'd be a 20 minute thing. Nope, three afternoons of scraping, re-applying, and fixing finger smears before it looked halfway decent. Anyone else find caulking way harder than the tutorials make it look?

My basement bathroom took me six hours over two weekends because I kept trying to fix the bead with my finger instead of just letting it dry. The trick I finally learned is to push the gun slower and stop obsessing over every little gap. You might be overworking it, which makes the caulk smear worse than just leaving it alone. The tutorials are right about the tools, but they never mention how much patience it takes to not touch it while it sets. Once I stopped fighting it, the next line I ran looked way better with half the effort.
