PSA: I tried to save time on a site plan with a new CAD plugin and it cost me a whole day
I was working on a residential site plan for a client in Springfield, and I saw this plugin called 'AutoTopo' that promised to auto-generate contour lines from survey points. I figured it would shave a couple hours off my usual process. I fed it the raw data, and it spat out a drawing that looked perfect at first glance. But when I went to check the elevations against the original notes, the whole thing was off by a consistent 2 feet. I had to go back and manually redraw every single contour line, which took me until 8 PM. Has anyone else had a plugin or shortcut totally backfire on a tight deadline?

Ugh, been there. Always spot check a few key points before you commit to the whole thing. Saves the late nights.

Used to just dive right in and hope for the best. @lopez.brooke is totally right about spot checking, it really does save you from a huge mess later. That small step makes the whole job way less stressful.

Funny how that applies to so much more than just work, doesn't it? @blakeharris mentioned just diving in, and I feel like that's how half the world operates until they get burned once... then suddenly spot checking feels like a survival instinct. It's like cooking dinner without tasting the sauce first, or buying a used car without getting a quick look under the hood. You learn the hard way that a little upfront check saves you from a whole lot of regret later on. That mindset shift from "go all in" to "take a peek first" really does change how you tackle everything.
