inA guy at the county fair said my work was 'too clean'
But what if you want both? I mean, I get the idea of keeping some marks, but a really clean finish can feel amazing too. It's like the skill is in making something look perfect, not just leaving it rough. Maybe it's just me but a smooth surface doesn't have to feel dead, it can show a ton of care in a different way.

inMy old boss in Milwaukee always said to use a mirror on a pole for every inspection, no matter what.
Man, that hits home. I had a foreman who drilled "check the damn cleanout plug for a second" into our heads. Thought it was pointless busywork until a brand new PVC plug blew off a test cap during a pressure check. The threads were stripped from the factory. That two second glance saved us from flooding a finished basement. Old guys have those rules for a reason.

inMy journeyman told me to always torque lugs to spec, and a call-back proved him right
My old boss used to say the same thing, @faith_palmer51.

inPSA: I tried to save time on a site plan with a new CAD plugin and it cost me a whole day
Used to just dive right in and hope for the best. @lopez.brooke is totally right about spot checking, it really does save you from a huge mess later. That small step makes the whole job way less stressful.
