That fancy drafting pencil I swore was a gimmick actually saves me time
I bought a $30 Pentel Orenz Nero after a coworker swore by it for tight tolerances. Figured it was just hype until I spent a week doing tiny detail work on a commercial set. That auto-feed feature kept me from stopping every 5 minutes to click, and I finished the job 2 hours faster. Anyone else been proven wrong by a tool they thought was overpriced junk?

Actually, that sounds like a waste of money to me. Most of those fancy pencils break after a month of real use, and then you're stuck with something you can't fix. The clicking motion is part of the process - it forces you to pause and think about your next line, which actually saves time in the long run because you're not rushing through sloppy work. You probably just got lucky with that job, or maybe the extra cost made you feel like you had to work faster to justify it. Plus, those auto-feed pencils always jam if you look at them wrong, and then you're stuck messing with a tiny spring instead of just clicking. Really, a basic $2 mechanical pencil works fine for 99% of people, no need to overcomplicate things.

My buddy tried one of those auto-feed pencils and snapped the tip off three times before lunch.
