Old dredge hand at the marina told me to stop fighting the silt and go with the flow

I was out on a job last Thursday near Baton Rouge, getting frustrated because the suction kept clogging on fine material. An old timer named Jerry walked up and said I was running the pump too fast for the conditions. He told me to drop the RPMs by about 200 and let the material come in slower, not try to force it. I tried it and the clogging stopped almost immediately, plus I got way more volume by the end of the day. Has anyone else had a random tip from a veteran totally change how you run your rig?

Slowing down the pump fixed my clogging issues too.

Yeah totally. Lower flow gives the media more contact time, makes a huge difference.
