Switching from rope to wire made a huge difference for me

For the first 5 years I used rope swing on my cutterhead dredge. Thought it was fine until I blew a rope on the Mississippi last summer. A buddy loaned me his wire rope setup and I haven't looked back. It lasts way longer and doesn't fray near the intake. Anyone else made that swap and noticed a big change in downtime?

Yeah, I used to swear by rope until I saw how fast wire cuts the downtime.

Hang on, are you talking about wire rope or some kind of electric wire? I've only ever used synthetic rope for winching and it holds up fine for me, but I'm not doing heavy industrial work. What kind of downtime are you cutting exactly? Is it the setup time or actual wear and tear? I'm trying to picture where wire would be that much faster.
