Shoutout to my garage wall for saving me 40 bucks on a bike rack

I needed to store my mountain bike for the winter and didn't want to drop 50 or 60 bucks on one of those fancy vertical racks from MEC. So I just grabbed a couple of heavy duty shelf brackets from Home Depot for like 8 bucks total, bolted them into the studs in my garage, and hung the bike by the top tube. Been three months now and it hasn't budged an inch, plus I can still park my car in there. Kind of makes me wonder how many other simple solutions I'm overthinking because stores sell a fancy version of the same thing. Has anyone else found a dirt cheap wall hack that worked just as good as the real deal?

Shelf brackets for a bike is probably the most practical thing I've seen on here. Next step would be using those heavy duty utility hooks from the hardware store to hang shovels and rakes off the same wall space. That kind of thinking saves a ton of money and keeps the garage way more organized without buying some overpriced system.

Hang on, @nancy_davis, isn't there a risk that those utility hooks might not hold up under the weight of a heavy rake or shovel over time? I've seen some cheaper hooks bend or pull out of the wall after a few months of use, especially if you're storing metal tools. I get the idea of staying budget friendly, but I'd rather spend a little more on something that won't risk falling and denting the car or my foot. Plus, the shelf brackets already take up that wall space, so adding more hooks might make it feel cluttered instead of organized.
