Blew off my lawyer's advice to settle a noise complaint for $500

My landlord took me to tribunal over my drum practice and now I'm on the hook for $1,200 in fines and legal costs because I thought I could argue my way out of it, has anyone ever had a lawyer give them bad advice that was actually good?

Blew off my lawyer's advice to settle for $500" - wow, that's rough buddy. I mean $500 is annoying but it's way better than $1,200 plus the headache of going to tribunal. Honestly your lawyer probably knew those noise complaint cases are almost impossible to win once a landlord brings evidence. I've seen people try to argue that drumming is "artistic expression" or whatever and judges just roll their eyes basically every time. Sorry you had to learn that lesson the expensive way though, that really sucks.

Showed up to my own tribunal with recordings from the guy below me and still lost. Noise complaints are a slam dunk for landlords unless you have some really weird circumstances.
