My landlord tried to evict me over a broken mailbox lock last December in Edmonton
He claimed I was 'damaging property' but the lock was rusted from 10 years of use, not my fault. Has anyone else had a landlord pull a bogus eviction notice over something minor like that?

Landlords just love inventing drama over nothing these days.

Man I don't know, feels like you might be blowing this out of proportion. A broken mailbox lock? That's like a $20 fix at Home Depot. Most landlords would just ask you to replace it or take it out of your deposit. Were you behind on rent or something? I'd be curious if there's more to the story you're not telling us.

Right, "most landlords would just ask you to replace it." Sure, and most landlords also have a secret handshake with the universe where they only do that. This guy's landlord clearly missed that meeting. He probably charges for "emotional damage" to the mailbox too. Honestly, I bet the landlord's just mad because the guy's rent was on time and he couldn't find any other way to be a jerk.
