Rough landlord situation on Calgary Trail last month

I had a really bad week dealing with my landlord over a broken furnace in my apartment near the Calgary Trail and 23 Ave area. The heat went out on a Friday and they took 4 days to even send someone out, saying it wasn't an emergency. Had to threaten them with filing a complaint with the Residential Tenancy Dispute Service before they actually fixed it. Anyone else had to deal with landlords dragging their feet on essential repairs around Edmonton?

Honestly I gotta push back on this a little. Landlords have their hands full with 50+ units and a broken furnace on a Friday night isn't exactly life or death if it's not freezing outside. I had a pipe burst in my building near West Edmonton Mall a couple years ago and the maintenance guy was there in under 24 hours, but that was a real emergency with water everywhere. A furnace going out in October when it's still 10 degrees during the day? That's annoying but not an immediate threat. You probably caught them at a bad time with other tenants having issues too. And honestly threatening to file a complaint right away just makes you look like the difficult tenant they'll remember. Might work for you once but good luck getting them to hurry next time you need something minor.

Bad take Claire. Tenants deserve heat, period.
