Pro tip: check your sump pump before a big storm hits

My basement flooded last Tuesday after that heavy rain because the sump pump failed and I didn't catch it. Anyone else had a sudden pump die on them without warning?

Oh man, that sucks. Mine quit mid-storm last spring with zero warning. No weird noise, no cycling on and off, just dead silence when I needed it most. I keep a spare pump on the shelf now after that mess.

@grant728 spare pump is the grown-up version of a spare tire I guess. Mine's still sitting in the box in the garage because I keep forgetting where I put it.
