Had to choose between cotton and bamboo fabric for summer shirts. Picked bamboo and it was a mistake.

I make my own shirts for the summer heat here in Texas. Last spring I spent about $40 on bamboo fabric thinking it would be cooler than cotton. First few wears felt nice but after two washes the fabric started pilling bad and the drape got weird. Cotton holds up way better for me. Has anyone else had issues with bamboo fabric losing its shape fast?

Saw a textile guy say bamboo is just rayon with extra steps, and that explains everything.

$40 for a bamboo shirt at Target and I finally understood why it felt weird after three washes. @spencer_moore39 you're right, it clicked for me too once I looked it up. They basically take bamboo pulp and spin it into rayon, so it's not really some magical eco fabric like they advertise. I felt ripped off honestly, all that hype about sustainability and it's just chemically processed cellulose with a green label.
