Heard a guy at the hardware store say he just uses a big jar for his kraut now
It got me thinking about how I used to stress over fancy airlocks and weights, but after my third batch in a basic 2-gallon jar came out perfect, I realized the old ways often work just fine.

Ever try just using a dinner plate as a weight? That's my go-to move now.

Yeah, the dinner plate trick is a classic. I did that for years before I even knew airlocks were a thing, and @the_jason is right, it just works. Sometimes you really don't need to buy more stuff.

I get what you're saying, but I actually think the dinner plate trick is risky for a lot of setups. I tried it once on a wide-mouth jar and the plate slipped off when the fermentation got really active, making a huge mess. @the_jason might have better luck, but I'd rather spend a few bucks on an airlock than clean krausen off my counter again, lol.
